Middag i Löberöd

Storasyster matar lillasyster.

JaMarcus Russel signed with the Raiders

It's getting ridiculous!

I guess that about sums it up when it comes to JaMarcus Russels record rookie contract with the Raiders. Over 31 miljon dollars guaranteed in his contract! The hold out was a record breaer too. He won't be able to contribute this season at all. He's missed too much when he held out for the entire training camp period and the first week of the season.

One thing I've reacted on when it comes to coverage of the hold out is Pat Kirwan comparing the hold out, on NFL.com, to when Bo Jackson refused to sign with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Pat Kirwan drafted Bo for the Bucs, if I'm not misstaken, and Bo had already before the draft stated that he would not sign with the Bucs if they drafted him. He stood by his word and played baseball with the Kansas City Royals instead. The reason for Bo's boycott was simple enough. He blamed the Bucs for not telling him the truth when they said that a trip to Tampa and a physical at the Bucs would not render him ineligable to play baseball in the SEC. They were wrong! The SEC rules said differently and he was unable to play his last season of college baseball at Auburn. Bo played baseball and reentered the draft the following year. He was then drafted, if memory serves me, in round 7 by the Raiders. He signed and played fottball as a hobby after the baseball season. He was a professional baseball player and a part time football player. He was fantastic on the football field and had his career not be cut short by a hip injury he would have been in the hall of fame today.

Bo thought that the Bucs had knowingly robbed him of his final baseball season at Auburn in an attempt to get him to be a fulltime football player. If it's the truth we probably will never know. Maybe Pat Kirwan will tell us on nfl.com. But then again he might not.

JaMarcus Russels record breaking deal, before he even set foot on the field, let alone thrown a pass, raises the question of a rookie salary cap in the NFL. Will we get one or will the rookies continue to eat up salary cap space for the veterans? The NFL players association will probably not be too hard to convince if the owners want to impose a cap for rookie contracts. JaMarcus Russel may be the last of the extreme rookie pay check receivers.

It's getting ridiculous!
